After crashing 8.5 million computers, CrowdStrike says sorry to its partners with a $10 Uber Eats gift card, which was also broken

If you were out last Friday, you may have encountered some difficulty shopping, getting a coffee, or, god forbid, trying to catch a flight due to a bug that crashed 8.5 million Microsoft devices and messed up a few Linux-powered computers.

After realising that the core issue came from a configuration file in an update for CrowdStrike’s Falcom platform, the cybersecurity company has been working around the clock to fix the issue, and things seem mostly back to normal. As a partial apology for its huge error, Crowdstrike has been sending out $10 Uber Eats vouchers to its “teammates and partners” (via TechCrunch).

The email was sent out and also posted to X, though it has since been taken down: “To express our gratitude, your next cup of coffee or a late night snack is on us!”

Another recipient posted the voucher to X, revealing that in the UK, the total credit is £7.75. Depending on where you are, a good chunk of that money would probably go to the delivery c…

Apex Legends is making its biggest change since launch- an upgrade tree for every legend that adds 120 new variables to every match-

The eras of Apex Legends can be mapped out by a handful of milestone patches: the arrival of Evo Shields, the introduction of the map rotation, the first objective mode that’d eventually become Mixtape, and more recently the new iteration of Ranked. Experimentation is baked into Apex’s identity. Respawn has never shied away from making foundational changes if it believes it makes the game better.

Season 20 is likely to mark another era with the arrival of legend upgrades—a new mid-match progression system that adds four unique abilities to all 30 legends. Upgrades are by leveling up your legend, which goes hand-in-hand with an overhaul to Evo Shields arriving at the same time. Here’s how it works:

  • Level 1 (gray shield): No upgrade
  • Level 2 (blue shield): Choose upgrade 1
  • Level 3 (purple shield): Choose upgrade 2
  • Level 4 (red shield): No upgrade

What upgrades …

3 decades after the first game, Flashback 2 has a release window-

Flashback 2, the sequel to the cult classic ’90s platformer which came out before I was even born, has gotten a new gameplay trailer and a release window. You’ll be hopping, skipping and jumping your way to victory against the sinister Morphs when it comes out this November, a cool 31 years after the first game.

Taking place in “in an action-packed cyberpunk universe where the fate of humanity itself hangs in the balance,” the sequel is a direct follow-up to the first game that looks set to emulate its side-scrolling, Prince of Persia-esque gameplay. You’ll play series hero Conrad B. Hart—a name of frankly terrifying power—as he fights opponents who are “determined to enslave every civilization in the Solar System”.

Unlike the first game, the new one is a resplendent 2.5D affair, letting you move along the ol’ Z-axis and adding a bit more depth to the game’s puzzles. It should be a faithful sequel— original creator Paul Cuisset is leading the project&md…
